Full Time Temporary(see Note 1 below) Firefighter Position
JOB DESCRIPTION: FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER:
The position of Firefighter for the fire department requires the employee to play a multifunctional role. This role encompasses the many responsibilities required on the emergency scene as well as the daily tasks of maintaining a fire station and the affiliated equipment. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: emergency and non-emergency response to Fire, EMS, Rescue, and other requests for service; facilities and equipment maintenance; pre-fire planning; public fire education; district information maintenance; and other duties as specified by the Fire Chief, their immediate supervisor, and/or Fire Department board of directors. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: basic firefighting principles, techniques, and procedures; basic rescue operations; basic usage of rescue/ firefighting equipment; fundamental concepts of chemistry and physics; and first aid methods and techniques. Skill to: react in a calm, quick, and proficient manner in life-threatening emergencies. Ability to: learn fire prevention/pre-planning strategies and techniques; communicate clearly and effectively; keep simple records and prepare reports; follow instructions and perform without hesitation in emergency and non-emergency situations; utilize fire and medical equipment including hose lines, nozzles, pumps, hydrants, extinguishers, ladders, hand tools, extrication tools, air masks, etc.; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: (Documentation of below requirements MUST be presented when submitting resume.) 1. At least 18 years old. 2. High School graduation supplemented by training in fire science. 3. Eligibility for possession of a valid NC Class B driver’s license. 4. N.C. certification as a Firefighter II. 5. N.C. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) 6. N.C. Operations Plus HAZMAT certification. 7. Incident Command System certification (NFPA 1561) (ICS 700 ,800 100, 200 expected). 8. Blood-borne Pathogens training (NFPA 1581 objectives and OSHA29 CFR 1910.1003). ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Successful completion of physical endurance/agility, and reading/knowledge tests. 2.
