In The Beginning
These are photographs of the people, places, equipment and fires from the early days of Durham Highway. During this phase of our history Raleigh FD units weren't very far out of the city proper. The firehouse was on Glenwood Ave near Millbrook Rd. which at the time was also known as "The Durham Highway" Our territory was from The Durham County line to the North, near Briar Creek today to where Crabtree Mall today to the South.
Many of those in these pictures have gone on to careers in our department and other departments around the area.

The Middle Years
This time in the Durham Highway history saw the annexation by Raleigh of territory further out into the county. Durham Highway began leasing our station on Pinecrest Rd to Raleigh as we moved into the station on Norwood Rd.
Where we are today
Today Durham Highway is located on Norwood Rd. We have a first due area of about 20 sq/miles and have a number of contracts with the city of Raleigh. We run about 800 calls per year. We still own the building that houses Raleigh Engine 23.
