1/20/2012 DHFD Stands by at Wake Forest Station 1

        Picture
Units from Wake Forest, Falls, Stony Hill and Bay Leaf FD's responded to a working residential structure fire in the Wake Forest area. The house was heavily involved in fire upon their arrival. It became clear to command that units would have to be called in from other departments to cover their districts. Durham Highway had 2 full crews allowing one of them to cover Wake Forest station #1.

        Picture
_Durham Highway's Rescue 5 was dispatched to assist Morrisville FD units for a car accident off Kit Creek Dr in the late afternoon Monday. While returning from Morrisville, The Rescue 5 crew was alerted to a dispatch for a pedestrian struck on I-540 Eastbound near Lumley rd. and immediately responded to that location. DHFD personnel treated the patient and provided scene lighting and the mobile command post for the lengthy police investigation.

DHFD personnel are authorized to add themselves to a call if they are in the area or feel they can make a difference in a call by adding personnel or equipment.

        12/31/2011 A Year in Review

The year is done. The department finished the year running fewer calls than last year down 13% with 686 vs. 791 calls. We ran an average of 1.9 calls per day. B-shift ran the most calls with 253 (37%) A-shift ran 241 calls (35%) and C-shift ran 192 calls (28%)

272 (40%) of our calls were Fire related calls. 267 (39%) of our calls were for some type of EMS incident, and the final 147 (21%) were dispatches that we were cancelled or we found nothing.

348 of our calls were within our own fire district. 263 of our calls were within the city limits of Raleigh. 75 of our 2011 calls were for assistance to other Wake Co. departments.

All in All a good year for the personnel and residents of our district.

Departments hard work results in good news for district residents.

"I'd like to congratulate Chief Feely for his department's performance and for the hard work of all the department members," said Commissioner Goodwin. "The citizens in the Durham Highway Fire District should rest easy knowing they have a fine group of firefighters protecting them and their property in case of an emergency."

Durham Highway FD spends hours training, to not only be the best prepared FD when the bell rings, but we train just as hard to provide the residents of our district with the lowest possible insurance rates. You (our district residents) may not know this, but insurance rates are in large part based on the service that your fire department is able to provide.

ISO has been a leading source of information about property/casualty insurance risk. For a broad spectrum of commercial and personal lines of insurance.

Recently Durham Highway FD underwent an audit from the ISO organization of everything aspect of the department with an eye towards how well we protect our constituents. They spend days reviewing everything from the number and quantity of trucks we can bring to bear to any emergency situation. They look at what we carry on those trucks, our training records, our ability to work with surrounding departments, how many hydrants and how far apart they are. They look at, and verify every aspect of your fire department.

We are very pleased to announce that this latest review resulted in a 4/9 (known as a 4 slash 9). What does this mean to you? If you own commercial property in our Fire District you may be entitled to lower insurance rates. Check with your agent and show them this document.
