2 donated houses burned for training Saturday 10/20/2012
Saturday brought blue sky's and sunny weather for the departments first training live burn in years. With a growing and sprawling population, increased regulatory requirements and a lack of available properties, we were lucky to have the opportunity to conduct real life training burns, on not one, but two houses that were donated by the Dillard family at the corner of Strickland Rd and Leesville Rd. The training lasted most of the day and kept stand by crews on scene for the better part of the night. With 45-50 firefighters taking part from DHFD and neighboring departments a lot of firefighters got some great training from state certified fire instructors. Training like this is an invaluable tool to better understand fire behavior, building construction and various control and extinguishement methods. See all 300+ photos at Lee Wilsons website
